Businesses urged to join millennium celebration

The Nevada Commission on Tourism hopes Nevada businesses will climb aboard its NV2000 "Making Millennium Magic" campaign to promote Nevada's 15-month, statewide millennium celebration.

The celebration begins on Oct. 30 with a Nevada Day parade in Carson City and will continue through Jan. 15, Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday.

"We will get worldwide coverage," Lt. Gov. Lorraine Hunt said Monday. "The idea is to get many activities going on throughout the state."

Lake Mead Millennium cruises, millennium marathons and a 2,000 mile cross- country road race are among the events. Traditional ongoing annual events are also included on the millennium calendar and sponsors are encouraged to use millennium slogans.

Activities are listed in the Millennium Countdown Calender that will run in each issue of Nevada Magazine. The calendar is also available on the NV2000 website, www.2000nevada.com.

Campaign kits that provide information to businesses were distributed at a news conference. Businesses are encouraged to participate by adding the NV2000 logo onto their merchandise, advertising and brochures.

NV2000 merchandise -- including T-shirts, baseball caps and a Countdown to the Millennium clock -- were also on display and can be purchased on the NV2000 website.
