Letter: Too many kids desensitized to life

They obviously have entirely too much free time and information access.

How can today's society ignore kids' dress and what they do to their bodies? These are not fads, they are rebellious symbolic statements! How many more lives will it take to wake up America and get society back to its original intent -- adults being adults and kids just being kids who will be properly prepared to be responsible adults?

Today's parents can enforce discipline at home but when their kids walk out the door society has given them a "no holds barred" lifestyle. (It's the tail wagging the dog syndrome). In conjunction the media, i.e. movies, TV, video games and today's music, send the message to our youth that violence, hatred, foul mouths and disrespect for everything, including themselves, is cool.

It is horrifying to witness today's kids being desensitized to the finality of death whether it be their own or others.

Life is what we do and do not allow in it. Progress is usually applauded, but what is going on with today's youth is not progress. It is a sad, disgraceful era in American history. One that never should have been and one that only committed unity can repair -- unity from the government, churches, schools, media, parents and society as a whole.

Possibly going back in time and reinstituting a lifestyle that worked "in the old days" is a start. At least it was a successful method.
