Letter: U.S. not lacking for religious

I am not advocating that religion is the cause of the increase in violence. It is a very complex problem with probably many contributing factors that will require a comprehensive solution (if any).

The violence on television and in the movies, parents' noninvolvement, some rock music, proliferation of guns, and yes, religious fanaticism, are many of the things in our culture that contribute in some way to the problem.

Practicing morality based on common sense and what is good for a functioning society -- and that we alone are responsible for what happens in our community -- seems to me an approach we all can believe in. My children were brought up without religion and you couldn't find more moral, respectful and loving people.
