C-M's Banks, juco standout Dye commit to Rebels

The final pieces of UNLV's basketball recruiting puzzle are expected to fall into place today. The Rebels should receive Kenny Dye's signed national letter of intent and there's news that Marcus Banks, one of the stars of Cimarron-Memorial's state championship team, has committed to UNLV.

Dye, a 6-foot-2 shooting guard from Connors State (Oka.) College, completes a predominantly junior college class for coach Bill Bayno. He joins Lou Kelly of San Bernardino Valley (Calif.) College, Mike Garrett of Fresno City College, Trevor Diggs and Sylvester Dotson of Kilgore (Texas) College and Chris Popoola of Los Angeles City College along with Banks and Verbum Dei High School's Dalron Johnson, who signed with the Rebels in November.

Dye chose UNLV over Iowa State and Texas Tech. He averaged 24.8 points a game this year at Connors State.

Banks, the cousin of former UNLV standout Freddie Banks, averaged 26 points this year in leading the Spartans to the Nevada state championship. The 6-2, 180-pound guard had been recruited by the Rebels in the last month and chose UNLV over Southern California and Fresno State. Banks' letter should arrive at the Thomas & Mack Center Thursday.
