LV visitor count jumps 11.3 percent

Citywide hotel and motel occupancy was 94.4 percent in March, up 4.5 points. Taken separately, hotel occupancy was 97 percent, up 3.4 points.
The number of passengers traveling through McCarran International Airport in Las Vegas was up 8.5 percent in March, and automobile traffic from Southern California to Las Vegas increased by 11.1 percent.
Five destination resorts are opening in Las Vegas this year. Mandalay Bay and the Four Seasons opened their joint Strip property on March 2. The Venetian opened May 4, and the Resort at Summerlin opens in June. The Paris-Las Vegas resort debuts in September 1999.
Las Vegas' visitor volume has been climbing since September and has built upon the opening of Bellagio in October 1998. The LVCVA said visitor volume was up 2.8 in September; 4.9 percent in October; 1.7 percent in November; 6.7 percent in December, 7.4 percent in January, 7.7 percent in February and 11.3 percent in March.
