Elko considers $5 million in school construction projects

The single biggest project is a $3 million proposal for a 12,000-square foot district transportation facility on 200 acres the county already owns in Kittridge Canyon.
Other proposed projects would remodel school rooms, expand parking lots, construct library additions and build new boilers at a variety of area schools.
William McLeod, district director of instruction, said the transportation facility would house a conference room, multiple bays to repair buses, bathroom and shower facilities and a large parking area for the buses.
Board member Wilde Brough questioned the costs at a hearing earlier this week.
"We need this bus facility, but to spend $3 million for it when we have a shortage of classrooms may not be money well spent," Brough said.
The board is scheduled to vote next Wednesday.
