Final arrangements made for Clinton

A White House advance team was in Las Vegas today making last-minute arrangements for President Clinton's fund-raising trip here on Sunday.

The president's visit, the last stop in a four-day fund-raising blitz in the West, is expected to bring in as much as $400,000 for the Democratic National Committee at two Las Vegas events.

Air Force One is scheduled to arrive from Miramar Naval Airstation in San Diego at McCarran International Airport at 3:55 p.m., according to a tentative itinerary put out by the White House on Thursday.

From there Clinton is expected to attend a reception for the DNC at 6:10 p.m. at The Lakes home of Dr. Elias Ghanem, a Clinton fund-raiser and chairman of the Nevada State Athletic Commission.

The president's motorcade then is scheduled travel back across town for a 7:30 p.m. DNC dinner at the Henderson home of Las Vegas Sun Editor Brian Greenspun, a longtime Clinton friend. The dinner is costing couples $25,000 a piece.

Clinton plans to stay overnight at Greenspun's home and get in a round of golf with the Sun publisher at Lake Las Vegas on Monday before returning to Washington in the afternoon.

The White House itinerary does not list any public activities for the president on Monday until he leaves the city at 3:05 p.m.

Nevada Attorney General Frankie Sue Del Papa had planned to announce her Democratic candidacy for the U.S. Senate in 2000 on Monday, but postponed it until June 2 because of the president's trip. Greenspun also is considering a Democratic Senate bid.

The president originally had planned to visit Las Vegas on March 25, but canceled the trip because of the Kosovo crisis.
