Henderson: Subdivision, church approved

The Henderson Planning Commission Thursday approved plans for a residential subdivision and a neighborhood church.

The commission unanimously voted to approve the architectural review for the 13,360-square-foot Wagonwheel Baptist Church on five acres at 821 Cadiz Ave. in the Foothills area of Henderson.

Residents of the nearby Section Four community had worked with the builder of the church, First Missionary Baptist Church, to make the project compatible with the community.

A year ago the church had been planned for the River Mountain area of Henderson, but was denied by the Planning Commission after close to 100 residents turned out to protest the project. River Mountain residents claimed that it was incompatible with their neighborhood.

Also approved by the commission were plans for a residential subdivision consisting of 57 lots on 22.5 acres to the southwest of Maryland Parkway and Aura Drive in the Westgate area.

The next Henderson Planning Commission meeting is slated for May 27.
