Letter: Give youngsters positive feedback

The program included Pavan, which was dedicated to the people of Colorado and the students who died.

At most 35 parents and siblings attended the concert: fewer than one person in the audience per child on the stage.

The arts, especially band, orchestra and choir, provide opportunities for students to belong to a group and to participate in constructive activity.

As parents, and as a community, we should all support the arts in our public schools. With our physical presence as proof of our interest and concern, we should support the children and the teachers. We should be attending these events to reward our children with our attention and praise for their positive involvement. If we wish to avoid the kind of tragedies that are becoming part of everyday school experience for so many we must, parents and nonparents alike, be a presence for good in the lives of our children.
