Editorial: Special-ed revisions are worth noting

Translated this means that one size does not fit all as is the current format for ESY in the Clark County School District: four hours a day, four days a week for six weeks for any and all eligible students.

Many teachers report that the standard offering does not prevent very significant regression and loss of skills for their more seriously involved students.

If you and your child's teacher can document such regression, this information should be included in the enrollment for ESY, and you should insist on more intensive services for your child.

One solution for students attending Variety, Helen J. Stewart and Miller schools would be for those schools to convert to year-round schedules. It is time for change in order to serve students in special education programs appropriately, effectively and in compliance with the law.
