Hilton opens new conference center

Tom Tait, executive director of the Nevada Commission on Tourism, presented Hilton officials with a tourism development award Friday during the grand opening of the resort's Nevada Conference & Exhibition Center.

The Hilton has booked more than $10 million in future hotel room revenue since the center opened in February and has tentative business booked through 2016, said Rick Chapman, executive director of sales.

With the expansion, the Hilton can book larger groups - those needing 1,500 to 1,800 of its 2,000 rooms, Chapman said.

"We know that the Reno Hilton is going to move into the top five" largest hotel exhibit halls in next year's rankings, Tait said.

The Hilton is northern Nevada's largest hotel-casino.
