Letter: Students' studies are not a priority

This "Star Wars" distraction is occurring at a time when these students should be in school and/or studying for exams. I read an article this past week that said many parents and educators are concerned that these 1,249 students could not pass their final exams.

Why then are these and other parents allowing students to "camp out" for "Star Wars" tickets rather than study for their final exam?

Since the movie will be here for several weeks, I can only conclude that this preoccupation on seeing a movie instead of studying for school because of a lack of parental control or unwillingness to set priorities for their children.

Is this, finally, a clue to the source of the problem (i.e., self discipline) that has fostered seemingly uncaring attitudes by some students when it comes to preparing or taking exams for their graduation from high school?
