Hamilton tops 220 mph at Indy

Davey Hamilton of Las Vegas finally reached speeds of 220 mph on Tuesday, while Henderson's Sam Schmidt struggled for comfort during practice for the 83rd Indianapolis 500 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Hamilton was upbeat after posting a fast lap of 220.805 mph, 16th fastest among the 37 drivers on the track Tuesday.

"Now all we have to do is find one-half second of speed in three days of practice," said Hamilton, driver of the Galles Racing/Dallara/Oldsmobile Aurora V8.

Schmidt had a fast lap of 217.538 mph, 28th fastest of the day, in the Unistar Auto Insurance/G Force/Oldsmobile Aurora V8.
