Eureka County hires deputy district attorney

Kelly Brown was a candidate for Lander County district attorney last November. He's a Las Vegas native who worked as an accountant for a security contractor at the Nevada Test Site before attending McGeorge Law School in Sacramento, where he received his law degree in 1995.

Eureka County District Attorney Ted Beutel said he was reluctant to hire a deputy district attorney after campaigning on the platform that he would be able to handle the work himself. The county commission didn't agree and hired Brown at a salary of $50,000 a year.

Beutel said Brown has a good knowledge of criminal law and is acquainted with court officials who serve both White Pine and Eureka counties.
