Letter: NRA teaches safe use of firearms

The cartoon represents the NRA manipulating a puppet in the form of the GOP elephant. Mr. Smith seems to be blaming the problems with American society on guns and the NRA.

If the NRA has as much power and political pull as Mr. Smith implies in his cartoon, the shootings and killings caused by the illegal possession of handguns would be greatly reduced from its current level.

The NRA, from its inception, has worked to teach the responsibility associated with the possession and the safe operation of firearms, and continues to do so.
