Reynolds Foundation awards $24 million in grants

The Parasol Foundation of Incline Village in northern Nevada was awarded $6.6 million and United Way of southeast Arkansas $6.7 million as the first two recipients of the new Community Services Centers Initiative.

The Reynolds Foundation, headquartered in Las Vegas, also presented an $11.2 million grant to the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center's geriatric medicine program, the largest single grant ever given to the center.

The Community Services Centers Initiative is designed to encourage communities to examine their local nonprofit services and develop new ways to coordinate and consolidate agencies and programs, according to Fred Smith, chairman of the Reynolds Foundation.

The Reynolds Foundation charter dictates that most of the $40 million to $50 million in this year's grant money from the $1.3 billion trust goes to charitable organizations in Nevada, Arkansas and Oklahoma.
