Differences over Iverson bill remain

CARSON CITY -- A second Senate-Assembly conference committee will be appointed to negotiate differences over the so-called Sherrice Iverson bill.

Assemblywoman Kathy McClain, D-Las Vegas, said Tuesday the Assembly committee, which she headed, "agreed to disagree" with a like Senate committee.

The first conference committee met Monday and there was confusion after the session whether an agreement had been reached.

Assembly Bill 267 requires a person to report to law enforcement a violent or sexual offense against a child.

Sen. Mike McGinness, R-Fallon, chairman of the Senate committee, said there was an agreement that family members would be excluded from reporting these abuses.

He said the Assembly side of the conference committee agreed to accept the Senate version which gives the exemption to families.

McClain said she wasn't sure there was an agreement. And after talking to Assembly leaders, she said Tuesday there had not been any concessions and a second group will try to resolve differences.
