Nevada’s unemployment rate edges back over 4 percent

But while the 4.1 percent rate is above the 3.6 percent reported for March, it's still below the national average of 4.3 percent and below the 4.7 percent Nevada rate reported a year ago.

In California, the April unemployment rate was 5.6 percent.

A breakdown of the Nevada rates shows that the metropolitan Las Vegas area had an April rate of 3.9 percent, up from 3.4 percent in March.

In the Reno area, the April jobless rate was 3.8 percent, up from 3.6 percent in March.

An April unemployment rate of 5.4 percent was reported in Carson City, and a rate of 5.3 percent was reported in the Elko-Eureka counties area.

There were 38,400 Nevadans out of jobs during April, up from 33,600 a month earlier. There were 953,500 people working in Nevada, up from 948,900 a month earlier.

The statistics were released by the state Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation.
