Obituaries for May 26, 1999

Frances Antin, 92, of Las Vegas, died May 17 in Las Vegas. She was born May 17, 1907, in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. A resident for 20 years, she was a retired owner of a dress shop, a member of Hadassah and a member of City of Hope.

She is survived by one daughter, Rochelle Antin of Las Vegas; one sister, Ethel Zarko, and one brother, Perry Frumkin both of Seattle.

Graveside service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Thursday at Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave.

The family suggests donations to the American Cancer Society, 1325 E. Harmon Ave., Las Vegas, NV 89119.

James F. Arcudi

James F. Arcudi, 51, of Las Vegas, died May 19 in Las Vegas. He was born July 13, 1947, in San Gabriel, Calif. A resident for 15 years, he was a pest control salesman.

He is survived by his wife, Mary; his companion, Belva Scholp of Las Vegas; one son, Jimmy Arcudi of Chicago; three stepsons, David Zehm of Las Vegas, Fred Zehm of Alabama and Chayne Hilton of Texas; one stepdaughter, Shawna Zehm of Las Vegas; one sister, Diane Bowman of California and three grandchildren.

Graveside services were scheduled at 2 p.m. today in Bunker Eden Vale Cemetery, 925 Las Vegas Blvd. North.

Larry Bernstein

Larry Bernstein, 83, of Las Vegas, died Monday in a local hospice. He was born Oct. 7, 1915, in Bronx, N.Y. A resident for four years, he was a ladies apparel retail buyer and a member of Silver State Carolers.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley; one son, Charles Bernstein of Las Vegas, and one brother, Harold Bernstein of Livingston, N.J.

Arrangements are being handled by Bunkers Mortuary, 925 Las Vegas Blvd. North.

Mary C. Beske

Mary C. Beske, 84, of Las Vegas, died Monday in a local hospital. She was born June 15, 1914, in Chicago. A resident for 18 months, she was a homemaker.

She is survived by one son, William Beske of Las Vegas; two sisters, Elizabeth Radzevich of Orlando, Fla., and Linda Coyle of Braidwood, Ill.; 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Arrangements are being handled by Palm Mortuary, 1600 S. Jones Blvd.

Jacob C. Boehm

Jacob C. Boehm, 79, of Las Vegas, died May 19 in a local hospice. He was born April 20, 1920, in Dickinson, N.D. A resident for 10 years, he was a cafeteria cook, a Navy veteran and a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He is survived by his wife, Rose; two sons, Jack and Doren; three daughters, Ellett Maddaus, Marla Lipps and Mary Quintana; five sisters and four grandchildren.

Services were scheduled for 2:15 today in Southern Nevada Veteran's Memorial Cemetery, Boulder City.

Cecil "Poppy" Brown

Cecil "Poppy" Brown, 97, of Las Vegas, died Monday in Las Vegas. He was born March 1, 1902, in Braxton County, W.Va. A resident for 37 years, he was a retired chef and a World War I Army veteran.

He is survived by two daughters, Gloria Molinaro of Las Vegas and Linda Zamenick of Phoenix; eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will continue until 7 p.m. today in Palm Mortuary, 1600 S. Jones Blvd. Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday in Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave. Burial will follow in Palm Valley View Cemetery.

Danny Lee Conran

Danny Lee Conran, 33, of Las Vegas, died Saturday in Las Vegas. He was born Feb. 11, 1966, in PawPaw, Mich. A resident for 30 years, he was a glazier in the construction industry.

He is survived by three daughters, Megan Britt and Bianca Conran, both of Las Vegas, and Danielle Conran of Washington; his mother, Patricia Armoogan of Las Vegas; his stepfather, David Armoogan of Las Vegas; two sisters, Therica Marie Armoogan of Las Vegas and Dawn Lynn Conran of Palmdale, Calif.; and one brother, Juan Carlos Conran of Dowagiac, Mich.

Nevada Funeral Service, 2983 Fremont St., handled arrangements.

Alfonso Corona

Alfonso Corona, 64, of Las Vegas, died Saturday in a local hospital. He was born July 10, 1934, in Mexico. A resident for 10 years, he was a retired construction laborer.

He is survived by his wife, Maria; two daughters, Pilar Corona of Salt Lake City and Sinthia Maribel Corona of Mexico; three sons, Ramon Corona, Alfonso Corona and Salvador Corona, all of Mexico; and four grandchildren. Graveside services were scheduled for 3 p.m.today in Palm Mortuary, 1325 N. Main Street.

Chester Powell

Chester Powell, 91, of Henderson, died Monday in Henderson. He was born Oct. 18, 1907, in Minnesota. A resident for 37 years, he was a retired farmer.

He is survived by two daughters, Caroline Springer of Boulder City and Ramona Perrault of Tehama, Calif.; two sons, William Powell of Effie, Minn., and Marshall Powell of Cocoa, Fla.; one sister, Vera Manske of Columbia Heights, Minn.; 13 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren and three great great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be 2-7 p.m. Thursday in Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave. Services will be 11 a.m. Friday in Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave. Burial will follow in Palm Valley View Cemetery.

Alex Ross

Alex Ross, 76, of Las Vegas, died Monday in a local hospital. He was born March 15, 1923, in Milwaukee. A resident for 45 years, he was a retired keno dealer, a former member of the Jewish War Veterans Local 711 and a World War II Army Air Corps veteran who was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and Air Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster.

He is survived by his companion, Hazel Barnes; three daughters, Eileen Ross and Andrea Spinuzzi, both of Las Vegas, and Lois Castro of Patterson, Calif.; three stepsons, Steven Barnes of San Jose, Calif., Kevin Barnes of Newark, Calif., and Greg Barnes of Jacksonville, Fla.; one sister, Janet Angelini of Tarzana, Calif.; 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Graveside service will be 10 a.m. Thursday in Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Boulder City.

Charles J. Schroeder, Jr.

Charles J. Schroeder, Jr., 78, of Las Vegas, died Monday in Las Vegas. He was born Dec. 13, 1920, in Brooklyn, N.Y. A resident for 10 years, he was a retired foreman for a trucking company, a World War II Army veteran, a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, Battle of the Bulge Association, Ex-POWs of America and the Teamsters Union.

He is survived by one son, Eugene R. Schroeder of Aurora, Colo., and two grandchildren.

Graveside service will be 8:30 a.m. Friday in Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Boulder City.

James Vegas Soto, III

James Vegas Soto, III, 29, of North Las Vegas, died Monday in a local hospital. He was born Nov. 27, 1969, in Honolulu. A resident for one year, he was retired.

He is survived by one son, James V. Soto, IV of Hawaii; two daughters, Jadene Soto and Valarie Soto, both of Las Vegas; his parents, Betty Ann and James V. Soto Jr. of Las Vegas; two sisters, Margaret Mesa of Honolulu and Sarah Soto of Las Vegas; and his two grandmothers, Ramona Soto and Margaret Sepulveda, both of Honolulu.

Affordable Cremation and Burial Service, 2457 N. Decatur Blvd. is handling arrangements.

Grace E. Williams

Grace E. Williams, 72, of Las Vegas, died May 10, in a local hospital. She was born Aug. 29, 1926, in Chicago. A resident for 26 years, she was a homemaker.

She is survived by three daughters, Donna Williams and Deborah Williams, both of Las Vegas, and Patricia Williams of Hurley, N.M.; three sons, Terrance Williams and David Wiliams, both of Las Vegas, and Gareth Williams of Hurley; one brother, James Bourke; and one sister Florence La Velle, both of Illinois and four grandchildren.

Services were scheduled at 11 a.m. today at Davis Funeral Home, 2127 W. Charleston Blvd.

Cornelius Wilson

Cornelius Wilson, 58, of Las Vegas, died Thurday in Las Vegas. He was born Oct. 8, 1940, in Lake Village, Ark. A resident for 37 years, he was a hotel food and beverage worker.

He is survived by one brother, Freddie Wilson of Las Vegas; and four sisters, Georgia Wilson, Fannie Glover, Zimmer Wilson and Perleader Hampton, all of Las Vegas.

Visitation will be 2-8 p.m. Thursday in American and Burial and Cremation Services, 310 Foremaster Lane. Services will be 11 a.m. Friday in Greater New Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church, 1100 D St. Burial will follow at Palm Valley View Memorial Park.
