School district could face OSHA fines

According to district personnel director Sandy King, the citation stems from the district's plan to prevent the spread of communicable diseases, such as Hepatitis B and HIV.

King said the district makes exposure determinations at each specific school site when job functions change. The state wants them to revise their plan and make annual checks at the start of each school year in addition to the checks made when job functions change.

She said the violations were inadvertent and the state has offered a 40 percent reduction on good faith compliance.

The district is seeking a further reduction of the fine, but won't contest it.
