Laser pointer bill dies

SB360, as amended by Assemblyman Dennis Nolan, R-Las Vegas, would have made it a misdemeanor to harass anyone with a laser pointer.

Senators didn't want to bar any case of laser-pointing. But they said it's important to discourage people from pointing the devices at officers because the red dot of the pointer looks like a rifle laser and police could react defensively.

But Assemblyman Bernie Anderson, D-Sparks, insisted on the broader bill or no bill at all, and a Senate-Assembly conference committee agreed to let the measure die.
