Letter: Postal managers have no shame

While letter carriers have been working without a contract for six months now, you claim it's time "to hunker down on costs," as Postmaster General William Henderson exclaimed in a recent article. Yet you quietly paid 78,901 supervisors, managers, etc., over $179 million in bonuses in 1998!

How do you justify this lavish spending, and how do you rationalize raising the price of stamps in a record-breaking profit year?

Letter carriers, such as myself, would like to know why you hide your bonus payments from your employees? Why are you so hesitant to share with the very people who made "your numbers" so respectable last year?

I won't hold my breath waiting for any meaningful response. Do you think a settlement is feasible sometime this year?
