Elks foundation to give away $2.1 million in scholarships

Nearly $2.1 million in college scholarships will be awarded to 500 high school seniors by the Elks National Foundation.

Students in the current graduating class who are citizens of the United States qualify for the contest. The filing deadline is Jan. 14.

The Most Valuable Student scholarship contest judges students on financial need, leadership and scholarship. The top male and female student will receive $7,500 a year for four years. Second place will receive $4,000 a year for four years and third place, $3,000 a year for four years.

The remaining 494 scholarship recipients will receive $1,000 a year for four years.
