911 call leads to arrest of caller

When officers arrived at the home in northwest Reno on Tuesday, they found the body of Shirley Herman, 68, in the living room. They arrested Lester Herman, 69, who said he killed his disabled wife with a hammer and knife to put her our of her misery.

Both weapons were recovered and Herman is being held at the Washoe County jail without bail.

Police said Mrs. Herman had been in a wheelchair since a stroke three or four years ago. Neighbors said Herman was friendly and that the couple was quiet and kept to themselves.
