Fire departments get new system

The Las Vegas Valley's fire departments are working out the glitches in a new computer-aided dispatch system.
The new Tritech system, known as CAD, locates the closest available fire department unit to an emergency regardless of what jurisdiction the unit is from, Las Vegas Fire Department spokesman Tim Szymanski said.
The new system will allow for Las Vegas, North Las Vegas and Clark County fire units to overlap jurisdictions more frequently and get the closest help to an emergency as fast as possible.
The change to the new dispatch system should be completed by mid-December, and until it is fully phased in the old system is being used as a backup.
