Letter: Don't fall for federal trickery on census forms

There are many reasons not to fill out the form. First, it is the personal nature of the questions. One particularly offensive question asks one to racially classify oneself. Why should one be forced to do this? Racial classification smacks of apartheid. And there are questions about income, genders and ages of people living at your house. Bureaucrats at the IRS and Selective Service would like to know that. You say the Census Bureau promises not to give the information out. Since when can you trust federal government bureaucrats to do anything that is not in their own interest?

Another reason to refuse is precisely the reason the Sun gave to obey. That is the amount of federal funds coming to Nevada. It would be far better to keep the funds here in the first place. Now, I realize that my dream of the whole Nevada population refusing to pay their federal income taxes is just that, a dream. But as a Libertarian, I would like to see decisions for Nevada made here, not in Washington.

Therefore, do not be a fool on April Fool's Day. Do not fall for the federal government's rhetoric.
