Police release suspect's description

Metro Police are seeking information to identify a suspect in last week's home invasion robbery in the area of Cheyenne Avenue and Tenaya Way.

A man was in his garage Nov. 2 about 1:30 p.m. when the suspect drove up, parked, entered the garage and forced the man into his house where some items where taken, police said.

The man was forced to go to his bank and withdraw money. The suspect then took the man back to his house and left, police said.

The suspect was described in his late 20s or early 30s, 5 feet 8 inches to 6 feet tall with brown hair. The suspect's car was described as a 1991 black and silver Isuzu Trooper with a rear spoiler, custom chrome wheels, no front license plate and spare tire cover missing, police said.

Investigators said the same man is believed to be responsible for two other home invasion robberies on Oct. 29.

Anyone with information in this case is asked to call Metro Police robbery detectives at 229-3591 or Secret Witness at 385-5555.

Consultant urges Nevada preparation

Nevada schools must plan for violence and other catastrophes "before you have 35 satellite trucks outside," a consultant has told the state's new Commission on School Safety and Juvenile Violence.

Cheri Lovre helped deal with shooting incidents involving students in both Littleton, Colo., and other recent disasters and is a nationally recognized consultant on the subject of planning for violence in schools.

She told panel members Tuesday they have a dual role: To create a plan of action to handle violent incidents in case one happens in Nevada and to move toward solutions that identify problem children and help them before an outburst.

Lovre said that means drafting an emergency response plan and also setting a long-term goal to make school a safe, nurturing environment where that plan won't be needed.

The panel chairwoman, state Sen. Valerie Wiener, D-Las Vegas, said the commission's task is to develop a plan by January. It was created by legislation introduced following shootings at Columbine High in Littleton.

Man wanted in incident at Cox

Metro Police are searching for a man wanted in connection with last month's attempted robbery at Cox Communications.

A warrant has been issued charging Alfie Poston, 28, of Las Vegas, with burglary with use of a weapon and attempted robbery with the use of a weapon, police said.

A man went into Cox Communications, 121 S. Martin Luther King Blvd., about 6:50 a.m. on Oct. 1 and went to the data processing area, where he pulled out a handgun and demanded money. As nearby employees scattered from the area, the man fled from the building without getting any cash, police said.

Investigators suspected the robber had help from an employee inside the business.

Anyone who has information in this case or the whereabouts of Poston, who has an armed robbery conviction in New York, can call Metro Police at 229-3111 or Secret Witness at 385-5555.

Pickets will continue to protest business

A community group says it will continue to picket in front of an adult video store located near a residential neighborhood.

Porn Only In Zone, or POIZ, has been protesting in front of Hot Stuff Video, 5100 W. Charleston Blvd., in hopes that the store will be shut down or moved.

Members of POIZ met Tuesday night at the West Charleston Library and determined that the protests would continue.

The city of Las Vegas issued a temporary business license to Hot Stuff but order the store closed. It continued to operate while renting videos of all ratings in addition to adult material.

The store sued the city and convinced the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals last year that the municipal licensing regulations were unconstitutional.
