Pearson plans to sign letter of intent today

By now, Omari Pearson should be breathing a little easier.

Pearson, a 6-foot-8 forward from Crispus Attucks Charter School in York, Pa., said that he was going to sign a letter of intent today during a school pep rally at 10:30 a.m. PST (1:30 p.m. EST) saying that he will attend UNLV.

"Right now I'm very happy, but I'm hiding it," Pearson said Tuesday night. "I'll be happy when I know it's done. When it's completely done."

Today is the first day of the early signing period that runs through Nov. 17.

Pearson was recruited by Seton Hall, Providence, Michigan and NC State among others before choosing UNLV.

"(Associate coach Glynn) Cyprien and all the players made the team seem like a family," Pearson said. "Coach Bayno (head coach Bill) was very honest, coach Good (assistant Max) was very honest with me and that's something I liked.

"I've got a lot of emotions because I've been working really hard and waiting for this day for a long time."

Pearson said that after he signed the letter today, it would be sent to his grandmother in Chicago, Ill. via Federal Express for her to sign before being sent to UNLV.

Another Rebel basketball recruit, Caron Butler out of Maine Central Institute in Pittsfield, Maine, could not be reached for comment, but is expected to choose between UNLV or the University of Connecticut by Friday.
