John M. Balason

John M. Balason, 76, of Las Vegas died Wednesday in Las Vegas. He was born Oct. 18, 1923, in San Diego. A resident for 37 years, he was a retired Air Force captain and World War II and Korean War veteran, a retired member of the Air Force Officers Association and a charter member of the Las Vegas Archers Association.

He is survived by his wife, Anna; two daughters, Marlene Ehlen and Voula Balason, both of Las Vegas; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Visitation is scheduled 4-7 p.m. Sunday in Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave. Services will be 2 p.m. Monday in Palm Chapel, Eastern. Burial will follow in Palm Valley View Memorial Park.

Mary E. Chessari

Mary E. Chessari, 82, of Las Vegas died Thursday in a local hospital. She was born Nov. 8, 1917, in West New York, N.J. A resident for 15 years, she was a homemaker and a member of many local senior clubs.

She is survived by one son, Carmelo Chessari of Tarzana, Calif.

Eleanor Claus

Eleanor Claus, 87, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in Las Vegas. She was born July 8, 1912, in Brooklyn, N.Y. A resident for 12 years, she was a retired travel agency owner.

She is survived by one son, Bart Claus of Dana Point, Calif.; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

James Michael Collins III

James Michael Collins III, 37, of Las Vegas died Saturday in Las Vegas. He was born July 22, 1962, in California. A resident for four years, he worked in the construction industry.

He is survived by his wife, Michelle, one son, Anthony James Collins, one daughter, Mary Elizabeth Calugaru, his mother, Sunny Warren, and his father, Michael Collins Jr., all of California.

Henrietta A. Correll

Henrietta A. Correll, 76, of Las Vegas died Saturday in a local hospital. She was born Dec. 5, 1922, in Nebraska. A resident for 35 years, she was a retired real estate agent.

She is survived by one son, Michael Madison, one daughter, Sharon VanErt, and her ex-husband, Earl Correll, all of Las Vegas; five brothers, Germaine Heasley of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Paul VanErt of Chico, Calif., Martin Van Ert of Chico, Sylvester VanErt of Gardena, Calif., and Maynard VanErt of Torrance, Calif.; and two sisters, Mary Filsinger of Greeley, Colo., and Regina Martin of Pender, Neb.

John J. Defuso Sr.

John J. Defuso, 71, of Las Vegas died Wednesday in Las Vegas. He was born June 16, 1928, in Hazelton, Pa. A resident for three years, he was a retired siding mechanic in the home improvement industry and a World War II Army veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Madeline; two daughters, Joanne Porcello and Rita Defuso, both of Las Vegas; three sisters, Isabelle Savoie of Albany, N.Y., Mary Ferrara of the Bronx, N.Y., and Anna Chansky of Keysville, Va.; five grandchildren and one great-grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled 1 p.m. until a 5 p.m. rosary Friday in Palm Mortuary, 7400 W. Cheyenne Ave. Mass will be celebrated 3 p.m. Saturday in Our Lady of Las Vegas Catholic Church, 3050 Alta Drive. Graveside services will be 4 p.m. Saturday in Palm Memorial Park, Northwest.

Maurice John Faulds

Maurice John Faulds, 83, of Las Vegas died Wednesday in a local hospice. He was born May 9, 1916, in Ripley Surrey, England. A resident for 21 years, he was a retired farmer.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy; four daughters, Sonia Faulds-Kara and Rachael Welch, both of Las Vegas, Lesley Faulds of Salt Lake City, Carol Anne Rasmussen of Leicestershire, England, and Fiona Mary Faulds-Hamilton of Petworth, England; and nine grandchildren.

A memorial service will be 3 p.m. Sunday in Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave.

Virginia Mae Garn

Virginia Mae Garn, 73, of Pahrump died Tuesday in Las Vegas. She was born July 16, 1926, in Iowa. A resident for 48 years, she was a hostess.

She is survived by one son, Michael Kenneth Garn, and two daughters, Linda Frei and Sandra Gonzelez, both of Las Vegas; nine grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Services were scheduled at 1:30 p.m. today in the International Church of Las Vegas. A private burial followed. Hites Funeral Services, 438 W. Sunset Road, Henderson, handled arrangements.

Paul Henry Horstmann

Paul Henry Horstmann, 67, of Las Vegas died Sunday in a local hospital. He was born Feb. 15, 1932, in San Francisco. A resident for 11 years, he was a self-employed builder, electronics technician, lawyer and philosopher and loving husband and father.

He is survived by his wife, Bertha B.; three daughters, Verna L. Heredia of Lompoc, Calif., Nita A. King of Santa Barbara, Calif., and Lori J. Reed of Albuquerque, N.M.; three sons, Paul H. Horstmann Jr. of San Francisco and John B. Horstmann and Anthony C. Horstmann, both of Las Vegas; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Monterey Hugentobler

Monterey Hugentobler, 87, of Las Vegas died Monday in a local hospital. She was born Nov. 5, 1912, in McKinny, Texas. A resident for 2 1/2 years, she was an administrative clerk for the Los Angeles Water Department and a longtime volunteer for rest homes and retirement centers.

She is survived by her husband, Ned; one son, Donald Goins of Las Vegas; and one grandchild.

Visitation was scheduled 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m. today in Bunkers Mortuary, 925 Las Vegas Blvd. North. Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Friday in Eden Vale Memorial Park.

Leland Lloyd Johnson

Leland Lloyd Johnson, 51, of Las Vegas died Sunday in Las Vegas. He was born Feb. 11, 1948, in Michigan. A resident for several months, he was a bar owner.

Bernard James McIntyre

Bernard James McIntyre, 81, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in Las Vegas. He was born Feb. 23, 1918, in Emery, S.D. A resident for 35 years, he was a carpenter for Holmes and Narver and a World War II Army veteran.

He is survived by one daughter, Nancie Nickels of Las Vegas; one son, James McIntyre of Fort Worth, Texas; one sister, Rosemary Smith of Las Vegas; and two grandchildren.

A memorial service will be 9:30 a.m. Monday in Our Lady of Las Vegas Catholic Church, 3050 Alta Drive. Burial will be private. Davis Funeral Home, 2127 W. Charleston Blvd., is handling arrangements.

Syril Mitchell

Syril Mitchell, 86, of Las Vegas died Wednesday in a local hospice. She was born Feb. 13, 1913, in Chicago. A resident for many years, she was a federal government office clerk.

She is survived by four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be 2:30 p.m. Sunday in Memory Gardens. Bunkers Mortuary, 925 Las Vegas Blvd. North, is handling arrangements.

William N. Newell Jr.

William N. Newell Jr., 76, of Las Vegas died Wednesday in Las Vegas. He was born March 16, 1923. A resident for nine years, he was a retired Indian jewelry business owner and a Marine Corps veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Dottie; two daughters, Harriet Stone-Clements and Pamela Greenfield, and one grandson, Kody J. Greenfield, all of Las Vegas.

Services will be in Georgia. Bunkers Mortuary, 925 Las Vegas Blvd. North, is handling arrangements.

Ricardo Espinoza Parra

Ricardo Espinoza Parra, 23, of Las Vegas died Monday. A lifelong resident, he was born Sept. 26, 1976, in Las Vegas.

He is survived by his parents, Socorro and Armando Espinoza, four brothers, Luis Armando Espinoza, Alfredo Espinoza, Oscar Espinoza and Alejandro Espinoza, and two sisters, Monica Adriana Espinoza de Gonzalez and Ana Leticia Espinoza, all of Las Vegas.

Services will be 11:30 a.m. Saturday in St. Anne Catholic Church, 1901 S. Maryland Parkway. Burial will be 11:30 a.m. Saturday in Palm Memorial Park. Palm Mortuary, 1325 N. Main St., is handling arrangements.

Virginia 'Ginny' Reynolds

Virginia "Ginny" Reynolds, 50, of Las Vegas died Wednesday in Las Vegas. She was born Aug. 31, 1949, in Hawaii. A resident for 13 years, she was a mortgage loan processor.

She is survived by her husband, Gary; one daughter, Sharna Blakley of Las Vegas; six sisters, Marcelina Idica, Claudia Murray, Becky Morris, Donna Apo and Philecia Yadao, all of Hawaii, and Lorraine Hefferman of Colorado; three brothers, Anthony Agor and Ronald Agor, both of Hawaii, and Nicholas Agor of California; and her stepfather, Dionecio Agor of Hawaii.

A memorial service will be 3 p.m. Saturday in Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave.

Dora Rivas-Overlin

Dora Rivas-Overlin, 74, of Las Vegas died Wednesday in Las Vegas. She was born July 11, 1925, in Guatemala. A resident for 19 years, she was a homemaker, a teacher of arts, crafts and Spanish with the Clark County Recreation Department.

She is survived by one daughter, Doris Hanson of Morrisonville, N.Y.; 14 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Stephen B. Shobert

Stephen B. Shobert, 48, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in a local hospital. He was born Jan. 24, 1951, in Los Angeles. A resident for six years, he was a welder.

He is survived by his wife, Linda A.; one son, Evan Shobert of Las Vegas; three sisters, Debbie Neese of Las Vegas, Nancy Henry of Big Bear City, Calif., and Julie Shobert of Covina, Calif.

Olga Patricia Singleton

Olga Patricia Singleton, 72, of Henderson died Tuesday in a local hospital. She was born May 15, 1927, in Beaumont, Texas. A resident for 19 years, she was a retired teacher, a member of Delta Delta Delta Sorority, Daughters of the American Revolution-Texas Chapter, Legion of Mary and the Society of the Little Flower.

She is survived by four daughters, Nancy Clemmons of Boulder City, Martha Doherty of Holbrook, Mass., Maureen Singleton of Hollywood, Calif., and Georgia Trotter of Henderson; one son, Joseph Singleton of Santa Maria, Calif.; and four grandchildren.

James W. Sloan Sr., 73, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in a local hospital. He was born Aug. 31, 1926, in Moundsville, W.Va. He was a retired contractor/painter, a World War II Army veteran and a member of Painters Union 159.

He is survived by three sons, James W. Sloan Jr. and John W. Sloan, both of Las Vegas, and Linzey E. Sloan of Steubenville, Ohio; five daughters, Ruby I. Almanza of Corona, Calif., Sharon L. Valdespino and Kathy L. Sloan, both of Palm Springs, Calif., Karen S. Landphear of Mira Loma, Calif., and Juanita L. Sears of Huntington Beach, Calif.; 23 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

George E. "Tiger" Small, 71, of Las Vegas died Oct. 31 in a local hospital. He was born Feb. 22, 1928, in Brooklyn, N.Y. A resident for 10 years, he was a retired boxer and trainer, an Army captain and World War II veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Rochelle; one daughter, Jodi Small, and one son, Anthony Milo, both of Las Vegas.

Graveside services were scheduled at 1:30 p.m. today in Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Boulder City. American Burial and Cremation Services, 310 Foremaster Lane, is handling arrangements.

Thomas Eugene Smith

Thomas Eugene Smith, 37, of Las Vegas died Wednesday. He was born Aug. 19, 1962, in England. A resident for 28 years, he was a plumber in the construction industry.

He is survived by two sisters, Barbara Harper and Dena Smith, and one niece, Tahnee King, all of Las Vegas; and two nephews, Donald Francis of Las Vegas and Michael Smith of Valley Springs, Calif.

Jimmie Lee Suggs

Jimmie Lee Suggs, 48, of Las Vegas died Sunday in Las Vegas. He was born Oct. 14, 1951, in Pitt County, N.C. A resident for 28 years, he was a laborer for Perini Construction and a member of Laborers International Union of North America 872.

He is survived by his wife, Sherry Ann; one daughter, Jenyatta Suggs, and two stepdaughters, Stacey Gibbs and LaTonya Watts, all of Las Vegas; his mother, Canary Suggs; five brothers, Robert Suggs, Tommy Lee Suggs, James Suggs, Alfred Suggs and Calvin Suggs, all of North Carolina; and nine sisters, Flora Dean Darden, Minnie Ree, Carolyn Battle, Emma Lou Suggs, Barbara Carter, Dorothy Wright and Sybil Joyner, all of North Carolina, Mary Ann Payne of South Carolina and Linda Jackson of Las Vegas; and eight grandchildren.

Francis Eugene Sutorius

Francis Eugene Sutorius, 81, of Henderson died Wednesday in Henderson. He was born Aug. 15, 1918, in New York City. A resident for 15 years, he was an employee of Annie the Maid, owned and operated service stations in California and was a World War II Army veteran.

He is survived by two daughters, Annie Sutorius of Henderson and Emily Jean Sutorius of California; one son, Paul Louis Sutorius of Utah; eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Services were scheduled at 10 a.m. today in Davis Paradise Valley Funeral Home, 6200 S. Eastern Ave., followed by burial in Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Boulder City.

Barbara L. Vilardo

Barbara L. Vilardo, 53, of Las Vegas died Wednesday in a local hospital. She was born Dec. 21, 1945, in the Bronx, N.Y. A resident for 30 years, she was a business consultant.

She is survived by two sisters, Ann Marie Vilardo and Carole Vilardo, both of Las Vegas.

Twila Mae Wagner

Twila Mae Wagner, 75, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in Las Vegas. She was born Sept. 7, 1924, in Wisconsin. A resident for five years, she was a waitress.

She is survived by her husband, Charles B.; two sons, William Wagner and Charles B. Wagner Jr., both of Las Vegas; three daughters, Kathleen A. Hawser and Sally J. Kellicut, both of Wisconsin, and Rebecca S. Schultz of Las Vegas; one brother, Calvin Abrens, and one sister, Edith Woods, both of Wisconsin; 14 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
