Lady Rebels in NIT

UNLV women's basketball coach Regina Miller called the Lady Rebels' inclusion in this year's preseason Women's National Invitation Tournament a "reward" for the program's remarkable turnaround a year ago.

After seeing whom the Lady Rebels drew for tonight's first-round matchup, Miller has to be wondering if the WNIT did UNLV any favors. The Lady Rebels, who return only two starters from last year's 17-11 team, will face 14th-ranked UC Santa Barbara tonight at 7 at The Thunderdome in Santa Barbara, Calif.

The game will be the regular-season opener for UNLV, which became the most improved Division I women's team last season after winning only four games in 1997-98. UNLV is led by a pair of sophomores, 6-2 forward Linda Frohlich and 6-1 guard Erin Johansson -- the only two starters from last year's team.
