Local racers capture SCORE class titles in Mexico

Led by brothers Ed, Tim and Troy Herbst, Southern Nevada racers earned an impressive four class championships and finished a close second in another as the six-race 1999 Laughlin SCORE Desert Series concluded Nov. 5-6 with the 32nd Tecate SCORE Baja 1000 in Mexico.

Troy Herbst, the youngest of the three second-generation racing Herbst brothers, captured the unlimited Class 1 season title for the third consecutive year.

Ed and Tim Herbst teamed to split driving time in their Ford F-150 to earn their first class championship in 20 years of racing, earning the 1999 crown in the featured Trophy Truck division.

Las Vegas' Danny Anderson won the Class 10 title in his Toyota-powered Jimco desert race car and Brian Collins easily won the Class 8 championship.

Finishing second in Class 1-2/1600 by a mere eight points, Henderson's Bekki Freeman was the only regular female driver of record in SCORE.
