Man receives consecutive life terms for slaying

Thursday's sentence ensures David Dunkle, 27, will remain behind bars for at least 50 years.

Dunkle, an Ohio native, pleaded guilty in September to first-degree murder with use of a deadly weapon and robbery with use of a deadly weapon.

John Ungerer Sr. was shot once in the back of the head and once in the back.

Dunkle was arrested Feb. 14 in Farmington, Utah, when a Utah Highway Patrol trooper saw him in a car on the side of the road. The car was registered to the victim and Dunkle was in possession of the victim's wallet.

The trooper told a grand jury that he noticed a bullet hole in the side of the car and he saw what he believed to be blood and a piece of flesh on Dunkle's shoes.

The victim's body was found near Laughlin the following day.
