Manhunt begins in apartment murder

murder is the 98th homicide in Metro's jurisdiction this year compared with 114 at the same time last year. Last year there was a total of 124 homicides.

Metro Police are searching today for two men seen leaving an apartment where a 27-year-old man was found shot to death Thursday.

Witnesses told police they heard several gunshots at about 9 a.m. Thursday and saw the two men leave an apartment, get into a blue 1980s pickup truck and leave the Sahara Glen Apartments in the 3600 block of East Sahara Avenue. The truck has a possible Nevada license plate of 295GHV, police said.

Police entered a first-floor apartment and found a 27-year-old man dead from apparent gunshot wounds, said Lt. Wayne Petersen of Metro's homicide unit.

"We have no motive for the shooting and we are trying to locate the two men (seen leaving the apartment)," he said.

The victim's name was not released Friday pending positive identification by the Clark County Coroner's Office.

The man driving the pickup truck was described as Hispanic, about 30 years old, 5-feet-6-inches tall weighing about 180 pounds with a dark complexion. He had medium length black hair and was wearing a blue jean jacket.

The other man was described as Hispanic, about 35 years old, 5-feet-6-inches tall weighing about 180 pounds with short black, curly hair. He was wearing blue jeans and a brown jacket.

Thursday's slaying was the 98th homicide in Metro's jurisdiction this year. Last year there was a total of 124 homicides.
