Maxim to close early

The executive running the Maxim hotel-casino announced Friday that the financially distressed property will close Sunday, two weeks earlier than planned.

The resort is on Flamingo Road just east of the Las Vegas Strip. It employs 800 people.

Ed Nigro, chief executive of Max Gaming LLC, which is leasing the property from owner Premier Interval Resorts Inc., said he is being forced to close the property early because a key vendor, Mission Linen Industries, declined to continue providing services on a C.O.D. basis.

"Without these supplies, without the ability to replace Mission Linen's services, and without the operating funds from Premier Interval Resorts, the Maxim hotel must close prior to the lease termination date of Dec. 6," Nigro said in a statement. "Max Gaming LLC has repeatedly sought a transition plan with Premier Interval Resorts in the hopes of avoiding a shutdown, however, each attempt remains unanswered."

Dallas-based Premier said two weeks ago it was "in negotiations with prospective operators to run the Maxim," but hasn't issued any statements since then.
