Stolen diamond ring comes full circle

In time all things will pass -- including a stolen diamond ring through a woman accused of swallowing it.

Lori Carroll, 32, passed the $4,000, one-carat ring in the Clark County Detention Center Thursday about 1:35 p.m.

Carroll is accused of going into Christensen M J jewelers in the Forum Shops in Caesars hotel-casino Nov. 8. A clerk handed over the ring so she could look at it, she turned around and then the ring was gone, according to a police report.

Carroll denied she ever had the ring. Metro Police were called and eventually, after not being able to find the ring anywhere on her or in the store, police suspected the ring was in her.

Carroll was taken to University Medical Center, and after a search warrant was signed, she was X-rayed. And there was the ring, said Lt. Marc Joseph, a police spokesman.

"She was in the hospital for a while waiting for her to pass it and then she was taken to the detection center's medical ward," he said.

For more than a week the ring didn't come out, then Thursday it was passed.

"We went down and identified the ring. It still had our price tag on it," said Stuart Anderson, manager of the jewelry store. "She swallowed the tag and everything."

Carroll was charged with burglary, grand larceny and -- of course -- possession of stolen property, police said.

Right now the ring is being held as evidence, but the store will eventually get it back. While the ring is still worth $4,000, no decision has been made what the store will do with it once they get it back, Anderson said.
