Letter: Editorial shows a big-city bias

The point that is being made by the rural Nevada rebels is that it is a county road, not a federal road. The U.S. Forest Service has undertaken no full scale environmental impact study on the bull trout, the state of Nevada has not added the bull trout to the endangered or threatened species in Nevada, so your editorial's remarks from last Sunday are out of order.

Reps. Jim Gibbons and Helen Chenoweth-Hage have finally taken action to review the facts in the case and attempt to cool a heated debate. This is appropriate action from our legislators. Attorney General Frankie Sue Del Papa wants the court to decide the matter of the road and we urge the courts to quickly decide the future of it.

Your opinion points to major metropolitan areas caring about the environment; those in rural Nevada live with the environmental concerns that you take up as a cause whenever the mood strikes you. Shame on you for trying to categorize us in the metropolitan areas as the only ones concerned with the environment. Rural Nevadans are the keepers of your environment and many of us in Reno appreciate the job they do in protecting our rights and our environment.
