APHA resolves against nuclear waste proposal

The resolution, drafted by the Nevada Public Health Association's legislative committee, was endorsed at the national group's annual convention in Chicago last week.
The resolution details the proposal's potential public health impacts to Nevadans and the rest of the nation.
Among other things, it expresses concern over new studies that show groundwater contamination would take place near Yucca Mountain much more rapidly than previously thought.
The resolution also expresses concern over earthquake activity in the area.
The 50,000-member national association will lobby Energy Secretary Bill Richardson and members of Congress against the dump plans.
