Gardnerville casino plans delayed

Executives for Park Cattle Co. and Carson Valley Inn said they pulled their request for a zoning change because Douglas County commissioners were likely to reject it due to residents' opposition.
The executives wanted to locate the casino in the Tillman Center in the Gardnerville Ranchos after Gorman's market pulled out earlier this year.
The Gardnerville Ranchos General Improvement District recommended denial of the project after about 40 residents voiced their opposition.
Residents said a casino would be an intrusion in their neighborhood, which features numerous families with children.
