Letter: Illinois school fight not nation's matter

A similar incident in a different jurisdiction might well have resulted in a milder form of punishment. It is a judgment call. Such matters must be left in the hands of local officials.

You need only to look at our criminal justice system to recognize that there is no national standard of punishment for every crime committed. Neither can there be a national standard for dealing with incidents of misconduct in our school systems.

It is wrong for outsiders to second-guess school administrators. They must be free, within the limits of the law, to exercise their best judgment in providing a safe environment for our children.
