Vanisi's execution set

Washoe District Judge Connie Steinheimer signed a warrant ordering Siaosi Vanisi to die during the week of Jan. 24.
Monday's action simply puts the execution process in motion. The death sentence will be stayed for an automatic appeal hearing by the state Supreme Court.
A jury that took fewer than two hours to find Siaosi Vanisi guilty of hacking Sgt. George Sullivan to death needed less than four hours last month to recommend that he die for his crime.
Witnesses testified that Vanisi repeatedly told them he wanted to kill a cop in the days before the death of the 19-year veteran of the UNR police force.
