Letter: Library board fails sensibility case

I take a back seat to no one in my defense of First Amendment free speech rights. I have no problem with people publishing Playboy or reading Playboy. In fact, one of the congressional candidates I've been working with in California for the past few months is a former Playmate centerfold model. So I'm far from some stuck-up old prude or religious zealot.

However, common sense dictates that adult material is for adults -- and making Playboy available to children at a public library is absolutely ridiculous. What is the library district thinking? Why doesn't it just give little Johnny a cigar and shot of brandy when he comes through the library doors as well?

And people wonder why taxpayers have such a low opinion of government workers and bureaucrats? They should pull their heads out of their keisters and fix this problem now.
