Letter: NASCAR lets Earnhardt slide

Regarding Ron Kantowski's note about the Dale Earnhardt-Terry Labonte bumping incident ("Crashed and Burned Up," Aug. 31):

NASCAR, the WWF of motor sports, did a little number at Bristol last weekend.

Last time I checked, the place looked like an ostrich farm with 50- some officials collectively sticking their melons into the tarmac on the last lap.

Credibility for that crowd is a problem for me.

You can get knocked out, finish last and still get a gazillion points towards the championship. This is good, I guess. Lead a lap, lead at the halfway point, finish running frontwards, duct tape a beer can to your forehead, romance Miss Bardahl in the pits during daylight hours ... these all seem to be point-getters. I'm so confused.
