Passing car kills bicyclist

A woman bicyclist was killed today in the south end of the valley when she was hit by a car, the Clark County Fire Department said.

The accident occurred between 7:30 and 8 a.m. at Las Vegas Boulevard and Wigwam Avenue, an official for fire paramedics said.

As of 9:30 a.m., Metro Police's fatal detail had not been called to the scene and could not immediately comment on the accident.

Fire department spokesman Bob Leinbach said that, according to paramedics, the woman and a man were riding bicycles northbound on Las Vegas Boulevard when the woman, who was behind the man, drifted into the road and was hit from behind by a car.

The driver of the car stopped at the scene, paramedics said.

The name of the woman, who was pronounced dead at the scene, was withheld pending the notification of family members.
