Fires burning in the West

Details on significant Western wildfires burning Sunday in three states:

CALIFORNIA

- Willow fire in Big Bear Lake area of San Bernardino Mountains and adjacent high desert, 90 miles east of Los Angeles:

Acreage: 63,486.

Status: Contained Saturday, control expected Friday.

Structures: Estimated 19, including several homes.

Background: Started Aug. 28, initially believed to be sparked by an illegal campfire but investigators now believe it was caused by something else.

Resources: 2,765 firefighters, 15 helicopters at peak. Down to 1,194 firefighters and 10 helicopters by Sunday.

Suppression cost: $9.7 million.

- Mixing fire in mountains near Lake Hemet in Riverside County:

Acreage: 3,300.

Status: Extinguished.

Structures: None.

Background: Started Aug. 28, arson caused.

Resources: Firefighters demobilizing.

Suppression cost: $1.5 million.

- Bridge fire in rugged brush and timber of Angeles National Forest, 30 miles northeast of Los Angeles:

Acreage: 7,234.

Status: 90 percent contained, no estimate for full containment.

Structures: Three cabins, 8 outbuildings.

Background: Started Aug. 29, cause unknown.

Resources: 814 firefighters, seven helicopters.

Suppression cost: $3.7 million.

-High Complex fires in the Shasta-Trinity area, at least 19 fires burning in a cluster 22 miles north of Redding:

Acreage: 29,300.

Status: 93 percent contained, control expected Monday.

Structures: None.

Background: Started Aug. 22, caused by lightning. Briefly threatened the community of Sugarloaf.

Resources: 1,834 firefighters, including over 90 members of the California National Guard.

Suppression cost: $13 million.

- Big Bar Complex fires 28 miles northwest of Weaverville, four fires ranging from 381 to 5,689 acres:

Acreage: 9,253

Status: 41 percent contained, full containment estimated Wednesday.

Structures: None.

Background: Started Aug. 22, caused by lightning. Eight injuries, mostly minor.

Resources: 1,235 firefighters, aircraft unknown.

Suppression cost: $5.6 million.

- Mount Hough ranger district complex cluster of five fires in Plumas National Forest near state Highway 70:

Acreage: 23,200.

Status: Largest fire is 10 percent contained; no estimate for full containment.

Structures: None.

Background: Started Aug. 22, caused by lightning. Two minor injuries.

Resources: 3,200 firefighters, 11 helicopters.

Suppression cost: $10.7 million.

- Feather River ranger district complex cluster fires in Plumas National Forest northwest of Lake Oroville in the Little Grass Valley Reservoir area:

Acreage: 3,855.

Status: Contained. Estimated control on Friday.

Structures: None.

Background: Started Aug. 22, caused by lightning.

Resources: Firefighters demobilizing.

Suppression cost: $5.6 million.

WASHINGTON

- Burning along the Columbia River gorge between Washington 14 and the Columbia River.

Acreage: 3,500.

Status: Out of control.

Structures: None.

Background: Started Sunday, cause unknown.

Resources: At least 100 firefighters.

Suppression cost: Unknown.

IDAHO

- East Slick fire, five miles south of Glenns Ferry along a 21-mile swath near the Snake River with firefighters using caution to avoid damaging wagon ruts on the historic Oregon Trail:

Acreage: 35,118.

Status: Contained Wednesday.

Structures: A potato cellar destroyed.

Background: Started Aug. 30 when strong winds blew down power lines.

Resources: Firefighters demobilizing.
