Registration for the annual National Engineers Week Future City Competition is open through Oct. 7.

The national program introduces seventh and eighth grade students to engineering through practical applications of math, science and technology.

Students work in teams to design cities on computers using "SimCity 2000" software, write essays on designing a city on Mars and defend their city's design to a group of judges.

The winning Las Vegas team will compete in the regional competition in January. The regional winners will compete in the national finals in Washington, D.C., in February. Call 455-6923.

Transplant Games Team Nevada is looking for people who have received a life-sustaining transplant to participate in the U.S. Transplant Games in June 2000 at Disney's Wide World of Sports in Lake Buena Vista, Fla. If interested, call the National Kidney Foundation at 735-9222.

Health care advice A seminar on "Making The most of Your Physician's Visit" is being presented by Dr. Richard Margolin 1:30-3 p.m. Wednesday at MountainView Senior Friends, 8524 Del Webb Blvd. Call 255-5404.

Supplies donated to children in need

Nearly $10,000 in school supplies and backpacks were purchased and donated last month to about 1,200 homeless children.

The second annual "School Supplies for Homeless Students" was sponsored by KVVU Channel 5 and 29 other local businesses and organizations.

The program targeted families living in temporary housing, such as motels, weekly apartments and shelters. Students from low-income families whose parents couldn't afford supplies were also recipients.

Immunizations

Health District immunization clinics are open each week in and around Southern Nevada. Immunizations are provided without charge to children and young adults under the age of 21 in any of four public health centers and 36 satellite clinics. The following clinics will be open this week, September 8-14.
