Artist's demonstration to be featured at meeting

The Nevada Pastel Society will hold its fall kickoff meeting at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the West Charleston Library, 6301 W. Charleston Blvd.

Women's group sets appreciation night

The Las Vegas Chapter of the National Association of Women in Construction will hold its Construction Industry Appreciation night 6 p.m. Wednesday at 4100 W. Charleston Blvd.

The featured speaker will be Jimmy Garrett, president of Industrial Photographics Inc. The public event costs $25, which includes the program and dinner. Call 593-1818.

Talent show

The first West Las Vegas Arts Center Music Talent Show will offer local musical artists an opportunity to compete for various prizes including a professionally produced compact disc single. Registration is now through Oct. 5 with a $10 fee. Call 229-4800.

UNLV center has immediate openings

UNLV's Client Services Center has immediate openings for adults, children and couples who could benefit from counseling.

The center provides a variety of services, including marriage, individual and family counseling and help with parenting, career decisions and other important life issues. Counseling is provided by graduate students under the supervision of faculty members.

Appointments are available afternoons and evenings. All counseling services are short term, not more than 14 sessions. To make an appointment call 895-3106.

APL will offer tests at Whitney Senior Center

Associated Pathology Laboratory will perform cholesterol testing 9-11 a.m. Wednesday at the Whitney Senior Center, 5712 E. Missouri Ave.

Two types of cholesterol tests will be offered, fasting and nonfasting. Cost will be $15 for the fasting test (nothing by mouth but water, black coffee or tea 12 hours prior) and nonfasting, $8. Call Green Valley Senior Friends at 434-6500.

Silver Advantage schedules screening

University Medical Center's Silver Advantage program is offering a free cholesterol screening 8:30-9:15 a.m. Wednesday at Lakes Quick Care, 2760 Lake Sahara Drive.

Participants may eat a light breakfast and take their medications. To schedule an appointment, call 383-2095.

Screenings planned for those with leg pain

Free screenings are being offered to individuals suffering from leg pain to determine if the person is at risk for a condition known as peripheral vascular disease.

The disease is caused by blocked blood flow in the arteries of the legs and can cause pain or swelling, difficulty walking, numbness and skin discoloration.

Screenings will take place 8 a.m.-2 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at Desert Radiologists, 598-1006; 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Friday at Sunrise Hospital, 731-8807; and 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday at MountainView Hospital, 233-5300. Appointments can be made by calling the facility.
