Gaming workers to have on-site child care

Station Casinos Inc. announced plans to invest $14.4 million to construct child care centers at each of its four Las Vegas hotel-casinos.

All four centers, operated by Children's Choice Learning Centers Inc. of Dallas, will open between January and March 2000. The centers will make Station the largest provider of on-site employee child care in the gaming industry, and the first Las Vegas gaming company to offer child care services off the Strip.

Station opened its first child care center at Station Casino Kansas City May 5.

Each center will be a free-standing, 19,000-square-foot facility, built at a cost of $3.6 million each. The centers will be open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, and will be capable of handling up to 250 children per work shift. Services will be provided for children between six weeks and 12 years old. Children's Choice will also offer a day care service for ill children.

The company plans to break ground on its first center at Palace Station Tuesday. The event will be attended by Nevada Lt. Gov. Lorraine Hunt.

Station owns and operates Palace Station, Boulder Station, Texas Station and Sunset Station in Las Vegas. It employs more than 7,000 in the area.
