Fernley reaches for full status

They plan to file an incorporation petition with Lyon County on Wednesday - the first big step in the process to form a local government.

Once it's taken, the Fernley Incorporation Committee will have 90 days to gather enough signatures on a petition to put the issue to a vote.

The committee needs 1,252 signatures, one-third of Fernley's 3,756 registered voters. An attempt to incorporate in 1996 ended when backers of the plan failed to obtain the necessary signatures.
