Joe Delaney remembers 1972: Minnelli at the Riviera

Liza Minnelli was one of the hottest acts to play the Riviera in the 1970s. In 1972 she had just earned a Tony Award for Best Actress in "Flora, The Red Menace" and was about to be nominated for and win a Best Actress Oscar for "Cabaret." She has been plagued with illness these past few years and has had to cancel Las Vegas appearances. Comedian Pat Henry spent most of his Las Vegas career opening for Frank Sinatra. Henry was well liked and always active in good causes. He predeceased Sinatra. Minnelli's musical director, Jack French, known as the "Grey Fox," was best known for accompanying female performers.
