Peterson to go into consulting

She said she and former Clark County school staffer Bob McCord are starting an education management and consulting business.

Initially, her clients will be limited to school districts and organizations outside the state, but Peterson hasn't ruled out returning to the Nevada education scene as a consultant.

"I'm not leaving Nevada, but we hope to market our services beyond Nevada's borders," she said. "I wanted to try a new aspect of education and consulting is a new challenge.

"The new superintendent needs to have full reign and sway over what goes on here and I don't want to influence that in any way."

Peterson, 50, is stepping down Sunday after holding the post for six years. She and husband Daniel will maintain their home in Incline Village.

Jack McLaughlin, superintendent of the Berkeley, Calif., Unified School District, takes over for her Feb. 1.
